DESCRIPTION

This comprehensive course provides students with an internationally recognized qualification in fashion design while developing their confidence and unique design identity. The course delivers a strong understanding of the role of a fashion designer in the industry and aims to ensure that graduates are ready for a range of fashion design positions. There is an emphasis on creativity and on development of original and inspired fashion design work, as well as in developing well-honed technical skills and industry knowledge. Throughout the course, students build confidence in bringing unique fashion design work from concept to catwalk. The course culminates with students showcasing their final collection of original fashion design work at the End-of-Year Open Door Day

This fashion design course will help you build a wide portfolio using traditional methods and digital programs. You will undertake a series of design projects that will introduce you to the design process. In year 1 you will learn basic pattern cutting and sewing skills. In year 2 you will become more independent in your approach to learning, and you will be encouraged to challenge tried-and-tested methods of design and pattern cutting.

WORK ACTIVITIES

As a Fashion Designer, you will create designs for clothes and accessories. You’ll aim to fit with, or predict, fashion trends and to appeal to potential buyers. Haute couture is the most exclusive area of design. As an Haute Couture Designer, you will produce garments for individual clients and produce seasonal collections that influence the rest of the fashion industry. You might even have your own fashion house! As a designer of ready-to-wear ranges, you will create quality garments that sell in selected ‘upmarket’ shops. There is an option to either follow the haute couture trend or work on creating a unique style. When your clothes go into production, you’ll give advice and sort out any problems with cutting or stitching.
